Midcoast Maine Wedding at Marianmade Farm

Lauren and Rusty shaped their wedding day with more than 100 of their people to be a close-knit celebration at Marianmade Farm in Midcoast Maine. The feeling from beginning to end was intimate and full of joy. I’m excited to share just a bit of their day with you and how they made it intimate even with more than 100 guests!

Can You Have An Intimate Wedding With 100+ Guests?

Aaaabsolutely. Lauren and Rusty celebrated their wedding day with about 120 of their closest friends and family on a beautiful September day in Wiscasset, Maine.

An intimate wedding day is typically between 50-75 guests but it’s also alllll about the feeling. You can create an intimate day no matter how many people you invite, I promise!

“We would love to find someone who can capture all of the big personalities and intimate moments of the day.” — straight from Lauren’s initial inquiry

An Intentional Vision For Your Wedding Day

From the first call, Lauren and Rusty knew they wanted their family and friends from all over the country to be a part of their day. They wanted their wedding day to celebrate life and happiness and be a thank you to everyone for being a part of their story. They shared that the most important thing to them was that everyone had a nice day together. The sweeeetest!

They envisioned natural and genuine moments captured of their people and felt those would be the most meaningful when looking back on their day.

Fun tip

— Lauren sent vendors a PDF including names and images of everyone in their wedding party and family (including Maya, their dog)! It helped highlight the excitement and love they had for their people (and pups) which was so palpable once their day arrived.

Leaving Space On Your Wedding Day to Spend Time With Your People

One thing I encourage couples to do is leave SPACE for themselves and their guests on their wedding day. It can be so easy to get caught up in sticking to a certain timeline or over-doing it on the formal portrait list.

The way you get those intimate moments captured forever is to give yourselves the time and space to have them.

In my experience, the most loved images couples have from their wedding day are not always the formal, posed photos (yes, a few are necessary!), or details laid out…but the portraits that happen naturally when they are able to be fully present in their day with their people.

How A Second Photographer Can Help Create Genuine Imagery

There are many factors when it comes to making a decision about having a second pair of eyes on your day. Baseline, I would consider having two photographers documenting your day if you have closer to 75+ guests attending your wedding — especially if you’re excited about seeing portraits of your guests.

For a day like Lauren and Rusty’s, it was crucial! While I was photographing formal portraits with Lauren and Rusty, Marena was photographing portraits of family and friends and all the little moments that were happening around me.

Two photographers can provide a fuller story of your day with genuine portraits of you and your people as you look back. These two portraits were taken in the very same minute at different locations on the property!

Lauren and Rusty’s wedding at Marianmade Farm was a day that proved even if you have more guests than a typical intimate wedding day, you can create a day that is family and friends-like-family focused with your partner.

If you are in the midst of planning your wedding day and want it to feel intimate with your people, I would love to hear about your plans so far!

Sweet words from Lauren + Rusty —

“Sienna was our wedding photographer and our day and memories of the day are enhanced because she was part of our team. Leading up to the event Sienna collaborated with me to plan out the day. I told her my vision and she scoped out the venue, used her knowledge of the light, angles and prior experience to make it a reality. She expertly navigated the art of fading into the background to allow for sweet candid moments to happen naturally, and stepping up to direct group photos. She is extremely skilled at her craft, professional and has a sweet, fun energy about her. Working with her was a unique, enjoyable, authentic experience and we will cherish her elegant, timeless photos forever.”
