Moosehead Lake Region Micro-Wedding on a Family Property

No venue seemed like it was the right fit until it was suggested that Kate and Kyle have their intimate wedding day on Kate’s folks’ property. Everything fell into place! Kate, Kyle, and Kate’s family created a day for everyone to join together in the woods and celebrate.

What Makes a Wedding Intimate?

I won’t come on here and give you a list of things that you should do if you want to create an intimate day for you, your partner, and your families. I firmly believe (and have witnessed) whatever you both find especially exciting, love-filled, calming, beautiful and and and to celebrate your relationship is what helps make a wedding day intimate.

A Wedding Made Special on a Family Property in Dover-Foxcroft

Kate and Kyle’s wedding celebration was a family effort from the start. Kate’s folks were in the midst of building their dream home in the woods (living off-grid in the adorable cabin below in the meantime) while Kate and Kyle were looking for a place to host their wedding day.

I was invited months before their wedding day to walk the property with them and hear all about their plans (and see the progress of the house and barn) before their day in June. Talk about intimate!

Supporting Local With a Welcome Dinner at The Mill Cafe

I joined Kate, Kyle, and their families for their welcome dinner at The Mill Cafe — a beautifully lit eatery on the Piscataquis River — the day before their wedding day. Welcome dinner coverage is LOVELY (especially for more intimate wedding days) for many reasons! There is usually an exciting energy building up prior to the wedding day that makes for a perfect time to document families meeting for the first time. Also, it was a sweet time for Kate and Kyle’s families to meet me prior to their wedding day since it was very intimate with about 50 guests all together.

What Is That Old Saying About Rain on a Wedding Day?

Rain was forecasted for Kate and Kyle’s day and although it was not ideal for the original vision, the love and beauty of the families and Maine woods showed through.

Flexibility (speaking to vendors here!) and shifting of previous plans is paramount on wedding days. I arrived early to try to beat the changing clouds and had umbrellas on hand in case we couldn’t avoid the rain. Although the weather ultimately shifted things, it was so clear that it didn’t matter when it came to the support and excitement of the families for Kate and Kyle.

It was an honor to witness the love surrounding Kate and Kyle as they began their marriage. From homemade snacks while getting ready, to family bringing chairs in from the rain and drying them off, to lighting candles for the tables — it was truly a team effort.

Read what Kate and Kyle have to say about their experience with me here.

Places to Visit In The Moosehead Lake Region During Your Micro-Wedding Weekend

The morning of their wedding, Kyle took some family and friends to a local mountain, Borestone, to hike. With so many places to explore, this area offers a balance of coziness along with adventure.

If you’re in the midst of planning your weekend and you’re considering the Moosehead Lake Region, head over to Destination Moosehead Lake to check out local places for your guests to eat, stay, and enjoy all-season activities. Living in the area, I have my favorites and I would love to chat about what you’re thinking for your wedding weekend and give suggestions!
